Background

In its effort to empower our youth, the Board of Trustees has created two posts on the Board of Trustees (BOT) for youth representatives. These posts are held for a 15-month term, with a three-month overlap with newly selected members. The youths will serve in an Ex Officio (non-voting) capacity.

Timeline

Applications will be solicited in September and decisions made by December in order for the elected representatives to begin serving in the new year. 

Selection Criteria

1. A male and female from the FVAMC Muslim community.
2. Must be attending high school as junior or senior or enrolled in an undergraduate university program.

Review Process:

The review committee consisting of the BOT’s Chair of Youth Development Program and the Imam will review and select candidates who best match the selection criteria.

Expectations:

1. Must attend four of the BOT meetings.
2. Must co-chair the youth committee.
3. Must provide a committee report each quarter

4. Indicate any FVAMC programs (FVAMC Academy, Ijaza, etc.) you have attend.
5. Provide a brief summary of your current extracurricular activities and how the skills learned may help you in this post.
6. Describe how you would increase youth participation and sense of belonging to FVAMC.

Ariana Khan. My name is Ariana Khan and I’m honored to serve as your youth representative for the FVAMC.

I believe our generation has so much to offer, whether it be the energy, creativity, or heart – we’ve got it all, and I can’t wait to work together and direct it into creating a real impact in our community and beyond. My goal is to bring about noticeable and positive change by offering fresh perspectives and building bridges between the youth and the wider community. I want to help ensure that young people are heard, included, and inspired – all while growing together in faith and solidarity.

Suhayl Ahmed. My name is Suhayl Ahmed, and I am honored to join the FVAMC Board of Trustees. 

I currently serve as co-president of Avon High School’s Muslim Student Association, where I help organize cultural outreach and awareness events, as well as many of FVAMC’s programs such as our community fundraisers and Eid celebrations. I believe that it is crucial we include youth voices in the leadership of FVAMC to ensure our programs remain relevant and welcoming for future generations. I also believe that service FVAMC is a way to give back to the community which has shaped me while laying a strong foundation for those who will come after us.
