ABOUT IJAZA

Ijaza is an intensive program in the study and practice of basic tenets of Islam. Its aim is to establish a solid foundation for and equip students with the tools essential to enabling them to become life-long learners and practitioners of their faith. To achieve this aim, students will engage in specific learning activities, including Quran memorization, Aqeeda Studies, and Khatm of Surah Baqara with Tajweed (melodious recitation of the entire Quran). This program will also result in other long-lasting positive side effects, including socialization with peers; forming life-long friendships; and building resiliency, self-esteem, and confidence in oneself.

METHODOLOGY

Student learning will progress along the steps of a pyramid as shown in the graphic below. Each class level will have multiple “cohorts” or groups.

Quran Studies – Mondays & Thursdays (Online)

Step 1 – Boot Camp. Students who are not able to read the Qur’an will go through the letters of the Arabic until they are able to read the Quran fluently. Though a group class, each student is different. Therefore each student will be given individual milestones.

Step 2 – Memorization. While on this step, students memorize Part 30 (Juz Amma) of the Quran, which consists of 78-114 Surahs (chapters). Here, students memorize in 2 cohorts that are matched based on memorization capabilities.

Step 3 – Khatm. Here, students complete a reading Surah al-Baqara with perfect Tajweed. The students will also review their previous memorization. The goal is to enhance the students’ tajweed and reading fluency. This also gives them a break from memorization and develops  a strong relationship with the Qur’an.

Step 4 – Advanced Memorization. Finally, students who demonstrate passion and discipline for further memorization can start further memorization of selected chapters of the Quran as recommended by the teaching adminstration.

Islamic Studies – Wednesdays (Online)

Islamic Studies class consists of two age-based cohorts; one for students 7-12 years of age and a second for students 13 years of age and older. Students under the age of 8 are not ready for Aqeeda learning, so they need not engage in Aqeeda learning.

Cohort 1 (ages 7-12) will study the Forty Hadith of Imam Nawawi and the Shamail of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. Both will give a foundational understanding o Islam,  such as Tawhīd, Tawakkul, Shirk, Forgiveness, Companionship, etc. A portion of the class will also be dedicated to the Shamā’il.

Cohort 2 (ages 13+) will delve into the study of Theology (Aqeeda). Special consideration will be given to why Islam is True, proving existence of God, and modern questions against Islam. Students will also go through points of tasawwuf, Islamic Sprituality, to aid their practice.

FVAMC Academy + Youth Gruop – Fridays 6pm-8pm (In-Person)

Cohort 1 (ages 7-13) will spend one hour on Quran Translations, the class is based on activities and games. The second hour is a fun hour

Cohort 2 (High Schoolers) will spend one hour on FVAMC Academy Islamic Studies. The second hour the students engage in activities to strengthen friendships and create bonds.
